In 2013, when Kumi University was facing severe financial difficulties, Dr. Hwang accepted the role of president, and much has changed at Kumi University since then. A new Vice Chancellor was appointed to shake things up, and the university has grown from strength to strength, implementing a strategy set out by the Ugandan government and other education-related organizations.
Dr. Hwang promised to "focus on developing our own revenue model and raise funds for scholarships and development" when he was appointed as president, and Erom has kept this promise, still using a significant portion of the profits from its business to fund Kumi's management, facilities, and scholarships.
Even in Africa, the land of the dry, the youth of Northeast Uganda are disillusioned by prolonged famine and civil war in neighboring countries. However, students of Kumi University don't give up hope; instead, they learn dynamically and prepare to enter the workforce dynamically, knowing that the advanced education they receive here will transform Uganda, the African continent, and beyond. Unfortunately, some students are unable to complete their studies because they cannot afford to pay their tuition fees. Don't let poverty steal their vision and help them become global leaders.
Kumi University is giving hope to youth, a future to Africa, and transforming East Africa.
